The Correct Leaf Removal Setup For Landscaping Solo Operators Is Not What You Think

A New Successful Method for Leaf Removal Setup

For a solo lawn professional, Bill’s method was simple. It started off with blowing leaves into piles, same as the “tarp and rake” method, but that is where the similarities ended. Once the leaves were in piles, a mower with a bagging attachment was pulled out and would mow over the piles, mulching them into much smaller pieces and bagging them in a convenient container that limited the weight you had to carry at any one time.

Once the bagger attachment was full, you dump the leaves into either a paper yard waste bag or a tarp bag. Using the bagger attachment for a Toro Timemaster meant dumping the bagger twice to fill a paper yard waste bag or dumping three times to fill a tarp bag. The paper yard waste bags could then be easily left on the curb for pickup by the city or the tarp bags are easily hauled into the back of your truck or trailer. The tarp bags have the added convenience of making the load very easy to dump at the landfill, just throw them out of the back of the vehicle and empty them out.

Using this leaf removal setup quickly doubled the amount of work that could be completed in a day and partnering with another company had the added benefit of increasing the efficiency by allowing one operator to blow the leaves while the other ran the mower with the bagger attachment.

Some will swear by the “tarp and rake” method and if they are happy with it then it is their prerogative to work in whatever way they feel is best, but give this new method a try. I guarantee you will see an increase in productivity and your muscles will be thanking you at the end of the day.
