A Guide to Retaining Wall and Geogrid Basics

By Caleb Auman from Auman Landscape, LLC

Hi guys, in this video, I want to talk about retaining wall basics, in particular the basing of the wall, and the base materials needed.

Knowing the basics will help you produce something that your customers will love, and your reputation will be enhanced by.

So what are some of the main things to look out for?

  • There are two types of acceptable base: Open graded stone and Dense Graded

  • Use of geo fabrics

  • Compaction is CRUCIAL

  • Minimum 6” of block embedded below grade

  • Make sure block joints are off set

  • Minimum 12” of drain stone behind wall

  • Geogrid

    • Bi Axial: Strength in both directions

    • Uniaxial: Strength in one direction

  • Always consult with an engineer or wall design professional prior to any project.

  • Geogrid length measured from face of wall back

Well, I hope this helps, guys, and let me know what you’d add!.
