The Fundamentals of Horticulture and Plant Identification

July 15, 2020

Hi guys, Paul Camara here from Spring Green Landscaping, and today I wanted to kick off a little video series I’ll be sharing on the topic of horticulture.

Specifically, in this video, I want to talk about the fundamentals of horticulture and plant identification..

There are two really overused (and misused) words in the world of horticulture, and these are the ones I wanted to talk about.

  • Evergreen. The biggest mistake made when I hear some people talking about evergreen is that it’s a plant that never loses its foliage. This is just plain wrong - it’s when a plant doesn’t lose all its foliage in a single year.

  • Deciduous. These are plants that lose all their foliage in the colder months, usually in the Fall. However, some deciduous plants can be mistaken for evergreens by some, so it’s important to know which plant you’re talking about with your client.

As I mentioned, guys, this is just an intro video to this topic, and we’ll be diving a lot deeper into this in future videos.

In the meantime, I hope this helps with your horticulture clients and jobs.
